In 1986, Mawlana Hazar Imam established a global institutional framework of Conciliation and Arbitration Boards (CABs) to provide dispute resolution services for Ismailis at the regional, national and international level. The International Conciliation and Arbitration Board, or ICAB, was established to oversee the global network of CABs.
One of ICAB’s primary responsibilities is to coordinate policy, strategy, training, and capacity building for the global CAB system. ICAB is now looking for talented professionals in the Jamat with a strong background in conflict resolution to serve as Certified Trainers as part of its global training programme in mediation and conciliation.
The role of Certified Trainer is a voluntary position. Selected candidates will be trained by experienced professionals from the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution — an internationally-renowned alternative dispute resolution institution — through an intensive, two-week residential programme that will take place from 20 June – 1 July 2023 in London. Trainers will thereafter be assigned to deliver mediation training to members of the CAB system over the course of six years. While not required, previous experience in mediation or conflict resolution is preferred. All candidates must speak English fluently. Candidates who are also able to fluently deliver training in a second language such as Farsi, French, Gujarati, Portuguese, Tajik, or Russian will be given special consideration.
“The impact that the Certified Trainers have had on the CAB system has been enormous — bringing highly qualified murids who meld their exceptional expertise with their Jamati experience making the training we offer relevant, responsive, and tailor-made specially for our Jamat,” said ICAB Chair Zulie Sachedina. “Trainers also benefit and many have been able to leverage this training in their own professional and career development — highlighting so clearly Mawlana Hazar Imam’s vision that these initiatives benefit not only the Jamat but also the volunteer.”
