For almost four decades, AKU has aimed to improve quality of life in the developing world and beyond through world-class teaching, research, and healthcare delivery. It’s newest graduating class are the embodiment of this aspiration.
The multi-campus cohort of graduands will be applauded at a virtual convocation event for their academic achievements and for continuing a long-standing tradition of pursuing educational excellence.
Dr Peter Kalmus, climate scientist and award-winning author, will deliver remarks at the event in his capacity as Chief Guest. Dr Peter Mathuki, Secretary General of the East African Community, will also participate in the ceremony as Guest of Honour.
Graduands of the Class of 2021 will celebrate together virtually before marking their achievements through in-person ceremonies at each campus streamed live to their parents, well-wishers and the AKU community around the world.
The event will also include the installation ceremony of Sulaiman Shahabuddin as President of the Aga Khan University, which is now ranked among the top 100 universities in the world in public health. Becoming only the third President in the University’s history, President Shahabuddin has recently taken the lead of an institution with 3,200 students on three continents, seven hospitals that treat 2 million patients per year, and a long history of research excellence.
Today, AKU educates students for local and global leadership, generates new knowledge to solve problems that affect millions of people, and raises standards and aspirations in the countries in which it works. Learn more about the Aga Khan University’s work to empower people in the developing world.
