Mawlana Hazar Imam departed Vancouver on 20 October, concluding his five-day visit to Canada. Accompanied by Prince Aly Muhammad for the duration of his trip, Hazar Imam participated in historic events in three cities in Western Canada.
In an historic joint ceremony in Vancouver, the University of British Columbia (UBC) and Simon Fraser University (SFU) each conferred Mawlana Hazar Imam with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in recognition of his lifelong service to humanity.
On 19 October, Mawlana Hazar Imam was conferred with honorary Doctor of Laws degrees from the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University at a joint ceremony, the first of its kind.
The University of Calgary conferred Mawlana Hazar Imam with its highest academic honour: a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, reserved for the most distinguished individuals who have made extraordinary achievements in community, national, or international services.
Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Vancouver today, accompanied by Prince Aly Muhammad, for the final leg of his visit to Canada. President of the Ismaili Council for British Columbia Samir Manji and Zulie Sachedina, Chair, International Conciliation and Arbitration Board (ICAB) greeted Hazar Imam and Prince Aly upon their arrival.

Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Calgary on October 16 for the second leg of his visit to Canada, accompanied by Prince Aly Muhammad. Upon his arrival, Hazar Imam was greeted by President of the Ismaili Council for the Prairies Fauzia Lalani.

Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Edmonton today, accompanied by Prince Aly Muhammad, to begin a visit to Canada that will include the inauguration ceremony of the Aga Khan Garden in Edmonton as well as degree conferral ceremonies in Calgary and Vancouver.
Karen Armstrong delivered the Global Centre for Pluralism’s 2018 Annual Pluralism Lecture at the Aga Khan Centre on 4 October, in the presence of Mawlana Hazar Imam, Princess Zahra, former Governor General of Canada Adrienne Clarkson, and Secretary General of the Global Centre for Pluralism John McNee.
Mawlana Hazar Imam will visit Canada in October 2018 at the invitation of leading civil society institutions. During this time, Hazar Imam will attend a special ceremony for the inauguration of the Aga Khan Garden, Alberta, to be presided over by the Honourable Rachel Notley, Premier of Alberta. He will also be awarded honorary degrees by three Canadian Universities for his achievements, and contributions to humanity.
