In 2025, the Global Encounters Festival is launching an innovative new project: Connected Cubes, enabling the Jamat to honour its diverse cultures and identities.

Connected Cubes will engage both new and experienced artists from 22 jurisdictions to connect, collaborate and create together.

Each cube, crafted by local artists, will serve as a reflection of our community’s culture, history, and values. Together, these cubes will form a collective installation at the Festival, showcasing a collaboration that highlights artistic expression.

The process is as remarkable as the final product, beginning with artist selection and dialogue. Local Jamats invite distinguished visual artists to participate, entrusting them with the task of representing their community. The artists draw inspiration from various elements; architecture, language, patterns, traditions, history, flora, fauna, and more. Themes depicted on the cubes will also inspire communal participation, with Jamati members contributing to a larger mural or creating their own “mini cubes.”

Each installation will feature an interactive element; a QR code that allows viewers to dive deeper into the story behind the artwork. Through videos and narratives, the artists will share their creative journeys, the significance of their designs, and the meanings embedded in each cube. This feature enhances the audience experience, bridging the gap between the art and the artist, making the exhibition even more immersive and impactful.

The Global Encounters Festival is an initiative to celebrate and inspire engagement and excellence in talent through the universal languages of arts and sports, and cultural exchange, whilst creating artist and athlete communities. As the countdown to the festival begins, the Connected Cubes remind us that we are all individual and unique, whilst being part of one united Jamat.
