The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat, India observed International Women’s Day on the 8th of March, 2018  at its Una Project Office, by organizing a celebration for the women and girls of Una block of Gir Somnath district in Gujarat. The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat, India, which has been working with communities in Una, Rajula, Mahuva and Talala since 2015, mobilized approximately 450 women and girls from Ranvashi and its neighbouring villages to participate in the event. The event included sessions on topics such as hygiene, sanitation, and coping with social practices, with the ultimate goal of inspiring and empowering women and girls to realize their potential in society. In addition to these discussions, the event gave them an opportunity to showcase their handicraft skills and participate in games, such as quizzes for children. The celebrations ended with raas-garba dance and other cultural activities.  As an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network, the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat, India consistently strives to integrate gender equity and gender mainstreaming into all of its programmes, especially the Water and Sanitation programme, which is currently being implemented across rural communities in Maharashtra and Gujarat.
