On Sunday, November 19, 2023, the Jamat gathered to commemorate a momentous occasion as the dedicated leaders, committee members, and fellow Scouts of Boy Scouts Troop 797 came together to recognize and celebrate the achievements of six remarkable individuals. Aamil Momin, Areez Momin, Ilm Dhuka, Rayyan Meredia, Xavier Momin, and Ehan Umatiya were honored for achieving the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, a distinction that speaks volumes about their leadership, resilience, and commitment to community service.
The Eagle Scout rank is the highest achievement in the Boy Scouts of America program, symbolizing not only personal accomplishment but also a profound dedication to the principles of Scouting. Attaining this rank requires Scouts to demonstrate leadership, earn merit badges, and complete a significant service project that benefits their community. "Scouting taught me to do the right thing, even when it's hard." Ilm Dhuka, Eagle Scout Troop 797. The six honorees from Troop 797 exemplify these qualities and have become shining examples of what it means to be a Scout -- adding to the 183 scouts who have already achieved this honor in the Troop, and 59 are from Austin, Texas.
Troop 797, boasting a rich charter history spanning over 35 years, has consistently served as a beacon of Scouting excellence in the Southwest Region. The Troop owes its success to the collaborative efforts of Scout leaders, parents, the Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board, and, most importantly, the Scouts themselves. The commitment to the Scouting experience and the invaluable life lessons are evident in every member of Troop 797.

One of the Troop's strengths lies in its active involvement in the community, with Scouts undertaking impactful Eagle Service Projects that leave a lasting positive impact on the local area. “A week of camp life is worth six months of theoretical teaching in the meeting room." Areez Momin, Eagle Scout Troop 797. These projects not only showcase the Scouts' dedication to service but also contribute significantly to the betterment of the community they call home.
Troop 797 maintains a consistent meeting schedule, convening every Sunday at 9:30 am. This commitment ensures active participation from Scouts, leaders, and parents alike, fostering a strong sense of community and camaraderie within the Troop.
