The Tanzanian Jamat celebrated the completion of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s two-day Diamond Jubilee visit to Tanzania by expressing shukrana – happiness and gratitude for the Imam’s benevolence, guidance and protection. The celebration is also a reaffirmation of the Shia Ismaili Muslim ethic of contributing to social and human development, both within the Jamat and among the societies within which it lives.

Commemorations took place in the pavilion in Diamond Jubilee Hall in the evening with a musical night and dinner, dandia and rasura, with music provided by Khayal -- an Ismaili band based in London.

Zaeem Jamal, the band manager said, “We are truly touched by the warmth of all the volunteers, all the teams and all the Jamat here and dedicate our performance to all of them, and all the amazing hard work they put in for a truly epic Diamond Jubilee celebration in Tanzanian style."

The Khayal group was formed in 2003 with the goal of maintaining the relevance of classical geets and garba music for the Jamat by freshening up the music with a modern twist.

Feizin Amlani, a member of the Tanzanian Jamat who is a singer in the band said, “We’re all incredibly happy and excited to be performing in Dar es Salaam for the Diamond Jubilee.  This is especially significant to me because I have lived here for the last seven and a half years, so it will be a real honour and a pleasure to perform for the Tanzanian Jamat.”

The Khayal band members include:  Feizin Amlani, Rahim Daya, Zaeem Jamal, Farah Noorani Jiwan, Arif Najak, Kamaljit Rayit, Rahim Shamji, Prithpal Singh and Fayyaz Vellani.

The Jamat is thankful for this memorable and joyous occasion and wish their brothers and sisters Diamond Jubilee Mubarak.
