An Ismaili Para-athlete Demonstrates the Power and Passion for Sport

On October 9, a 16-year-old Ismaili para-athlete Umed Mamadkulov from Moscow became the first person in Russia with Down syndrome who managed to overcome the distance of 26.1 km in the duathlon format at the IRONSTAT SPRINT TRIATHLON SOCHI СИРИУС 2022. Umed, Tajik by nationality, represented Moscow city at the sports festival, which took place in Sochi from October 7-9, 2022.

IRONSTAR is a large-scale sports festival and competition for amateur and professional triathlon athletes in Russia. This year the festival gathered 6,000 participants, including 30 para-athletes from 352 cities of Russia. 

Umed's distance consisted of three segments: running - 1.1 km, cycling - 20 km, and running - 5 km. He completed the first running segment in 7,20 minutes, the cycling in 45,2 minutes, and the final segment in 40 minutes. Given this great result, it will be entered into the records of the INTERRECORD International Record Registration Agency and the Russian Records.
