Three new publications from the Institute of Ismaili Studies were launched at the Ismaili Centre in Lisbon.

The Ismaili Centre in Lisbon recently hosted the launch of three new publications from the Institute of Ismaili Studies. The event featured special keynote addresses by Professor Azim Nanji and Dr. Omar Ali-de-Unzaga.

Nurjehan Mawani honoured by UNIFEM Canada - In 2007, Nurjehan Mawani was the recipient of the UNIFEM Canada award for her work in advancing equality for women and girls. In her acceptance remarks, she discussed the role that institutional imagination can play in addressing complex societal issues.

Over 350 Bait-ul Ilm secondary students attended the Historic Cities Programme exhibition at Metro Hall in Toronto.

The Historic Cities Programme Exhibition arrived in Toronto on 16 April 2008 and was the subject of a lively panel discussion. The exhibition has already been visited by Toronto's municipal leaders, members of the architectural community and many in the wider public community.

Gala commemorates partnership between the Ismaili Community and the Province of Quebec.

Fifteen years ago the Ismaili Council for Canada initiated an agreement with the Province of Quebec to sponsor the migration of Afghan refugees. On 3 April, a Gala was held to commemorate this important partnership and to thank the province for welcoming the Afghan Jamat.

The 2008 National Sports Festival at Keele University saw nearly 900 participants from six different countries compete in 23 sporting categories. In addition to competitive sports, there was entertainment and activities for all.

It is nearly 22 years since Hazar Imam last visited with the entire USA Jamat, and the excitement is palpable as members of the Jamat celebrate in anticipation of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Golden Jubilee visit to the United States. Hazar Imam is expected to grant Darbars in San Antonio, Texas; Los Angeles, California; Chicago, Illinois; and Atlanta, Georgia, between 11 – 19 April 2008.

In a symbolic expression of their long historic ties and common roots, thousands of Jamati members from the Tajik and Afghan sides of Badakhshan came together for a cross-border concert to celebrate Navroz.

Mawlana Hazar Imam made an eight-day Golden Jubilee visit to the United States from 11 – 19 April 2008. During the visit, Hazar Imam granted Darbars in Texas, California, Illinois and Georgia, met with government leaders, and delivered the International Baccalaureate Organisation Peterson Lecture.

Following the opening of the Ismaili Centre Dubai, thousands of members of the Jamat enjoyed memorable and informative guided tours of the new Centre.
