Nestled just outside Austin, the city of Cedar Park is now home to a new, permanent Ismaili Jamatkhana. On 7 August 2018, state, city, and local leaders from across Texas joined Jamati leaders and volunteers to open the new purpose-built space, and share its vision.

Two Ismaili mountaineers recently summited K2, the second highest mountain in the world and considered by many to be a more difficult and dangerous climb than Mount Everest. Fazal Ali is the first Pakistani to have ascended to the summit of K2 (8,611m) on three separate occasions. He first conquered K2 in 2014, followed by a second successful climb to the summit in 2017.

The inaugural i-CERV weekend saw Ismailis from across the UK volunteer at soup kitchens, homeless shelters, park clean-ups, and training sessions for the aged.

The i-CERV initiative was launched in the United Kingdom jurisdiction Jamat during the Diamond Jubilee year with a great sense of excitement. i-CERV — Ismaili Community Engaged in Responsible Volunteering — is a programme first established in the United States, with a mission to offer its members an opportunity to serve the wider communities in which they reside.

His Excellency President Michael Higgins of Ireland and his wife Sabina Mary Coyne, today received Mawlana Hazar Imam at their official residence Áras an Uachtaráin. The occasion honoured Hazar Imam’s Diamond Jubilee, which concluded last month.

Participating entrants were invited to an exclusive red carpet opening event to mark the launch of the International Film Festival.

As part of the Diamond Jubilee Celebration, the inaugural Jubilee Arts International Film Festival was held in Lisbon last month. NOS Cinemas at the Vasco da Gama mall in Portugal’s capital hosted over 20,000 visitors, who watched film submissions screened in six movie theatres over the course of four days. 

During the Diamond Jubilee Celebration in Lisbon, tours were arranged for members of the Jamat to visit the Ismaili Centre and its gardens.

Two decades ago, on 11 July 1998, Mawlana Hazar Imam and then-President of Portugal Jorge Sampaio officially opened the Ismaili Centre Lisbon. The Centre’s 20th anniversary coincided with the Diamond Jubilee Celebration held in Lisbon earlier this month, during which thousands of visitors attended the building and its gardens for guided tours.

The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), Bangladesh celebrated the 61st anniversary of the ascension of Mawlana Hazar Imam to the Ismaili Imamat. The event also marked the conclusion of year-long commemoration of the Diamond Jubilee of Hazar Imam, which culminated in a global celebrations, including an address by Hazar Imam to Portugal’s members of Parliament, and the establishment of the new Seat of the Ismaili Imamat in Lisbon, Portugal.

During the Diamond Jubilee Celebration, the Jubilee Arts International Art Gallery (IAG) displayed 129 works of art, selected from thousands of submissions from around the world. Through paintings, photographs, sculptures, textiles, installations, digital art, and mixed media, artists showcased the talent and rich diversity within the global Jamat. Artist spotlights, guest panels, workshops, and the exhibition itself engaged, educated, and awed visitors and artists.

Over 40,000 members of the Jamat from over 45 countries around the world assembled at Feira Internacional de Lisboa for one of the largest Jamati gatherings in modern history and the final Darbar of the Diamond Jubilee year on 11 July 2018.

Mawlana Hazar Imam departed Portugal on 12 July, concluding a seven-day Diamond Jubilee visit to the country as well as the Diamond Jubilee year.

Mawlana Hazar Imam ordains the instrument to designate the Henrique de Mendonça Palace as the Seat of the Ismaili Imamat on 11 July 2018.

At a ceremony earlier today, marking the conclusion of his Diamond Jubilee year, Mawlana Hazar Imam officially designated the premises located at Rua Marquês de Fronteira in Lisbon — the Henrique de Mendonça Palace — as the Seat of the Ismaili Imamat, and declared that it be known as the “Diwan of the Ismaili Imamat”. The ceremony was attended by members of the Imam’s family including Prince Amyn, Princess Zahra and her children Sara and Iliyan, Prince Rahim and Princess Salwa with their children Prince Irfan and Prince Sinan, Prince Hussain and Prince Aly Muhammad as well as leaders of the Jamat from around the world.

Today marked day six of the Diamond Jubilee Celebration - Lisboa 2018, which included Mawlana Hazar Imam's address to the Portuguese Parliament, the inauguration of the Aga Khan Museum exhibition at the Parliament Building, as well as the afternoon and evening Sufi Voyage concerts featuring Salim-Sulaiman, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and Nobovar Chanorov.

Prince Rahim and Princess Salwa joined the audience for the Sufi Voyage concert on the evening of 10 July at the Altice Arena in Lisbon.

On 10 July, renowned music artists Salim-Sulaiman, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and Nobovar Chanorov collaborated for two concerts, sharing the stage with Jonita Gandhi, Vipul Mehta, and Raj Pandit. The artists had the opportunity to perform for Prince Rahim and Princess Salwa, who joined an enthusiastic audience for the evening show. 

Mawlana Hazar Imam was joined by the President of the Assembly of the Republic, His Excellency Eduardo Ferro Rodrigues, as well as Lisbon Mayor Fernando Medina on the tour of the Aga Khan Museum Collections.

Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Parliament address on 10 July was followed by the formal opening of the exhibition Ideals of Leadership: Masterpieces from the Aga Khan Museum Collections. The exhibit is being displayed at the Parliament building, São Bento Palace until 14 September 2018.
