Young environmental ambassadors take lead on climate action
Since the early days of Islam, believers have been taught to care for God’s creation by protecting the world’s natural habitats, and the spirit of environmental stewardship has been carried through to this day. As the dangers of climate change grow increasingly apparent, Ismaili youth from across the globe are leading initiatives to educate their communities and protect the natural world.
Global Encounters unveils virtual programme for July 2020

Half a million facemasks donated to the City of Houston by the US Ismaili Council and FOCUS USA

Houston’s Mayor Sylvester Turner accepted a donation of half a million reusable face masks from Focus Humanitarian Assistance USA (FOCUS) and the Ismaili Council for the Southwestern US. The formal announcement of the donation took place at Houston’s City Hall on 17 June 2020.

Close to Home: Al-Khimyah

The second film in the Close to Home series, written and directed by Prince Aly Muhammad, explores the work of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) in Cairo, Egypt. The film is an account of a city whose foundations were laid over a thousand years ago, which has seen a 500-year-old rubbish dump rebuilt into a lush green oasis, and a poor inner-city district transformed into a thriving community.

Ismaili Centres: Our ambassadorial buildings around the world

Mawlana Hazar Imam has remarked that Ismaili Centres have come to be seen as "ambassadorial buildings, which today reflect and illustrate much of what the Shia Ismaili community represents." These centres serve as a bridge between the Ismaili community and the communities where Ismailis live. There are six such buildings around the world, in London, Lisbon, Dubai, Dushanbe, Vancouver, and Toronto. Each building is unique both in architectural style as well as functionality.
