It was two weeks of great joy for our artists! After two years of virtual existence, elevArte - our virtual art gallery - took physical form. Eight artists, six different forms of art, and Art was celebrated. Art was elevated, artists and everyone who visited the exhibition were elevated. Read on to find out all the details.
Like many other articles, this one starts the same way...
The pandemic brought with it a very big challenge for everyone, for all areas of knowledge and culture. It forced us to think differently to be able to respond to the challenges that were laid in front of us.
One of the great challenges for the Arts & Culture team was how we would be able to implement our mandate of exposing the community to different forms of art, and, at the same time, to give stage to our artists. But how would we be able to do that if we didn't have a physical space to do it? To fulfil, in some form, this objective we created a virtual art gallery, where our professional and semi-professional artists could share their art with the community. Thus arises ElevArte.
Over the last two years, we managed to publish around 16 artists (including Spain and Angola) and over 90 works of art.
With the first edition of the Open House at the Ismaili Centre, this year, we had a golden opportunity to truly give these artists a stage.
While the exhibition was open to the public - from the 10th to the 18th of December - we had around 300 visits, including a very special visit by the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, and Prince Aly Muhammad, who spoke with each individual artist.
We close this exhibition with a great feeling of satisfaction, particularly because some of these artists had not had the opportunity to exhibit their pieces before, and all of them, without exception, had great positive feedback from the visitors!
We want to continue bringing forth all the talents we have in the community. So, if you have a portfolio, of whatever type of art, please contact us: [email protected].
Finally, we would like to thank all the artists, who accepted this challenge, for all their availability and for their constant presence at the exhibition!
