COVID-19 Vaccination – ANGOLA

The COVID-19 pandemic is an exceptional and tragic health event that transcends the health sector due to its negative systemic impact on society and the economy and for which, no country was prepared. It presents enormous challenges for the health sector, as it is a permanent threat to individual and collective life and security, causing disturbances in the social behavior of the population and the deterioration of the economic condition of families and the business fabric, which consequently increases poverty.

The Angolan National Vaccination Plan against COVID-19, aims to quickly reduce mortality and morbidity, contributing to the well-being of the population and the resumption of economic and social activities.

In the First Stage, 20% of the national population (6.4 million) should be vaccinated. This includes the population with continuous exposure, such as health, social services and public order and security professionals, people with risky morbidities and people aged 40 or over. The purpose at this stage is to reduce morbidity and mortality.

In the Second Stage, it is intended to vaccinate people aged between 16 and 39 years old (10.4 million inhabitants) through massive campaigns, corresponding to 32% of the population.

The purpose of extending vaccination to this age group is to reduce the transmission of COVID-19, given that this population subgroup does not have a high mortality rate, but has the highest disease incidence rate.
