Did you know that in 2022, 1731 earthquakes with a magnitude of 5 or more on the Richter Scale were recorded worldwide?
At the beginning of September this year, four earthquakes were recorded in Portugal, one of which was the largest recorded in the last 14 years!
In case of need, can you ensure that you are prepared to act if an earthquake strikes in Portugal?
The best way to be protected during an earthquake is to: DROP, HOLD and HOLD ON.
- Get Down - Get down on your hands and knees;
- Take Cover - Protect your head and the back of your neck with your arms or by getting under a table;
- Hold On - Hold on to your shelter until the shaking stops.
After the earthquake is over, count to 60 to make sure the objects around you are stable and carefully leave your shelter. Stay calm and move cautiously, check for unstable objects or other hazards around you, and follow your evacuation plan.
Throughout this month we will be organising activities to prepare Jamat in the event of an earthquake!
Stay tuned!
