Online activities for seniors continue to take place every week, through Zoom and WhatsApp. Although the confinement measures have eased with the transition from the State of Emergency to the State of Calamity, it is still essential to maintain social distancing without, of course, dispensing interaction with family and friends.

  • My Golden Time Seixal

This week, another My Golden Time activity took place in Seixal, promoting the autonomy of seniors through memory exercises.

With the aging process, especially from the age of 60, transformations occur with signs of evident deterioration in all directions (sight, taste, smell, touch and hearing). Such changes gradually affect and decrease sensitivity, as well as motivation and interest, directly altering the quality of life of seniors.

In this session, memorization training was promoted through two of the senses: smell and sight.

  • My Golden Events

As part of the My Golden Events activity, a training session on information technology took place on May 8th.

This session arose from the need to motivate seniors towards new technologies and also in order to make them autonomous in their use, increasing possibilities of communication with family, friends and the community.

In this way, Elderly Care started a digital inclusion program adapted to seniors.

  • Active Memory

On May 11th, another session of the Active Memory program took place, where the teacher Zubeda Ruhani prepared several activities for the seniors: physical exercise, entertainment and laughter therapy.

Laughter therapy is a complementary alternative therapy that aims to promote mental and emotional well-being through laughter.

The main benefits of laughter, at a psychological level, are: helps to cope with anxiety, helps in cases of depression and improves self-esteem. Stress is reduced thanks to the production of endorphins.

  • Gymnastics and physical exercise (in synergy with Youth & Sports)

Gym classes continue taking place every Tuesday and Friday, for seniors in Lisbon, and every Saturday, for seniors in Seixal.

Being the age group that should most avoid going outside, in the current context, seniors have also been exercising through a WhatsApp group, created for that purpose, every day at 12h15 pm, where training videos are shared for them to replicate.

Seniors (+60) who want to participate in the mentioned programs can contact the following Elderly Care members:
