The Internet and the various digital platforms currently available allow us all to continue to interact with family and friends, despite the social distancing.

Portuguese

This interaction is essential so that seniors can gain strength and motivation to combat some of the adverse effects created by social isolation, recommended by DGS to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Therefore, this week the following online activities took place, through Zoom and Whatsapp:

  • My Golden Time activity

On April 29th, another Golden Age activity took place, this time with the theme “Keeping the brain active at any age”. The normal aging process causes changes in some cognitive skills. Stimulating and challenging the brain is essential, especially in old age. In this sense, seniors have been doing daily exercises through a cognitive training program.

  • Atividade My Golden Events

On May 1st, a coaching session with coach Nadiya Manji took place, which focused on the resilience and practices to be adopted by seniors during this period of confinement, stimulating their self-esteem. In this valorisation dynamic, the achievements and the overcoming of the challenges that three of the participants obtained throughout their lives, were analysed.

  • Active Memory

On May 4th, another session of the “Active Memory” programme took place, with entertainment and exercises for seniors to keep their minds healthy, improving their mood and quality of life and also contributing to the concentration and agility of their cognitive abilities.

  • Physical exercise (em sinergia com Youth & Sports)

Seniors continue to practice physical exercise every week through a Whatsapp group, created for that purpose, in which every day at 12:15pm videos with training exercises are shared for them to replicate.

  • English classes - Lisbon and Seixal

Basic English and intermediate English classes continue to take place every Wednesday for seniors in Lisbon. On Saturdays, seniors from Seixal attend intermediate English classes.

  • Choir (em sinergia com o External Relations, Arts & Culture - ERAC)

Senior Choir practice takes place every Tuesday. This week was no exception.
To act in a choir is to compose a body of voices that, together, can become a powerful instrument. For this reason, socialization is inevitable and bonds are created naturally and more quickly.

  • Mother’s Day activities

Mother's Day was celebrated with seniors, through a gymnastics session, conducted by professor Irina Rodrigues, in a moment of entertainment and sharing.

Seniors (+60) who want to participate in the mentioned programs can contact the following Elderly Care members:
