SECONDARY RELIGIOUS EDUCATION TEACHER / ISMAILI COMMUNITY TEACHER
3-year Fixed Term Contract
Based: The Ismaili Centre, South Kensington, London.
Role: The Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) invites applications for the role of Secondary RE Teacher and Ismaili Community Educator to teach the IIS Secondary Curriculum to Ismaili students and wider Jamati engagements in the UK and Europe. This will entail delivery through classroom based as well as online/remote, camps, episodic and other implementation strategies. The Teacher will also contribute to effective planning of a sound RE programme to meet the needs of students and community members and to teach within the UK and all jurisdiction RE centres.
Person Profile: You will be an outstanding religious education practitioner within the Ismaili community with significant experience in delivering the IIS Secondary curriculum to students and the wider Jamat. You will need to be a graduate of the IIS Secondary Teacher Educator Programme and have completed a minimum of 3 years teaching experience within the Ismaili Tariqah and Religious Education Board (ITREB) context, teaching the IIS Secondary Curriculum. You will through self-study and/or institutional initiated programmes or activities, continuously developed your content knowledge, pedagogical skills and practice, competencies and your understanding of the IIS Secondary curriculum to meet the diverse needs of all students and the wider Jamat.
Background: The Secondary Teacher Education Programme (STEP) is a programme of study for practising and prospective teachers. The mission of STEP is to address the need for professional secondary education teachers by training exceptional graduates into teachers and mentors who can help to shape and inspire future generations and teach the IIS’ Secondary Curriculum to Ismaili students worldwide.
The programme, implemented in collaboration with University of London’s Institute of Education, extends over two academic years and culminates in two postgraduate awards: a postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDip) and a Master of Arts in Education (Muslim Societies and Civilisations). Following completion of the academic programme in London, participants proceed to an in-service phase as professional secondary teachers in a community-based religious education system.
