Aging implies changes, many of them involving losses and adversities. However, these losses do not mean that the well-being of older people is "compromised". Resilience is centred, precisely, in the factors and processes that make people resist in difficult circumstances, especially those associated with the challenges of aging.
It is a positive perspective of aging, more focused on potentialities than deficits. In fact, some studies, such as the Berlin Ageing Study, focus on the high level of well-being of older people, which suggest that, as you get older, you can activate additional resources that may not be present in other stages of life.
It is, therefore, important to understand which characteristics are associated with resilience.
