Located at King’s Cross in central London, but working globally, The Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS), which is a registered charity, was established in 1977 as an academic institution of higher education dedicated to the study of Islam, with a particular focus on its Ismaili and broader Shi‘i traditions. It engages in curriculum development for preschool, primary, and secondary levels.
The IIS is a registered charity and works on a highly interdisciplinary basis, partnering with several institutions of learning, including SOAS, the University of London, and the Institute of Education, University College London.
We are seeking to recruit a Secondary Education Officer to develop curriculum materials and support teachers at the secondary level, under the direction of the Unit Lead of Secondary Curriculum. This role is for experienced teachers who wish to develop their career further in the field of Education, particularly in curriculum development, teacher education and curriculum evaluation.
You will possess the following:
- A degree in Islamic Studies, religious education, the humanities or the social sciences with an emphasis on curriculum development.
- Sound knowledge and experience of teaching and learning frameworks/theories, strategies and resources, and field-based and library research at the secondary level within the field of religious education, Humanities or Social Sciences.
- Substantial teaching and teacher-education experience.
- Excellent curriculum writing skills in English.
- Excellent general written and oral communication skills in English.
- Excellent administrative and organisational skills, including the ability to work in a team environment and to manage the assigned workload.
- Commitment to and a strong understanding of equal opportunities issues within a diverse and multi-cultural environment, and the ability to apply these in your role.
