Children's income is no longer considered for the condition of resources of the elderly who ask for the solidarity supplement of the elderly.

Portuguese

The CSI (Solidarity Supplement for the Elderly) is aimed at the elderly over 66 years and five months. In concern, is a financial support in cash, paid monthly to beneficiaries of low resources, residing in Portugal. If the elderly person is married or has been living in non-marital relationship for more than two years, the couple's resources must be less than or equal to 9,202.60 euros and the applicant's resource must be equal to or less than 5,258.63 euros. If the elderly person is not married, resources must be less than 5,258.63 euros per year.

The amount of the benefit is established according to the difference between these annual resources of the elderly and the reference value of the complement (5,258.63, in 2019), with a monthly maximum of 438.21 euros.

If the applicant has children, in some situations, the income of these descendants is considered for the calculation of the elderly person's resources, influencing the value of the benefit to be received and, in some cases, closing the door to this support. Until now, the children's income was only unconsidered if it was less than 18,405.21 euros, for single descendants, or 77,301.86 for married descendants and with five minors. With the amendment approved, this weighting is no longer considered when calculating the benefit.
