On May 26th, at 6:00pm, the exhibition “Open Gardens” by the artist Nogueira de Barros will open.
The exhibition will be on view from May 26th to June 10th, in the Exhibition Hall of the Ismaili Centre, and can be visited every day from 10:00am to 9:00pm.
The exhibition brings together around 18 pieces by the author, based on his own approach to his aesthetic language.
Result of work developed throughout 2021/22, this set of works has its own character and the artist's plastic exploration of flora. The inspirational source of his show is the "open gardens" that the Ismaili Centre promotes every year at this time.
Nogueira de Barros is an internationally awarded artist, born in Almada, in 1964, lives and has his studio in Almada.
He exhibits regularly, having participated in prestigious group exhibitions and several solo exhibitions. In 2001, he began to exhibit abroad, highlighting New York City and London. In 2021 he was invited to be part of the international jury in the Torso International Art competition, India.
Nogueira de Barros' work is dictated by the power of colour and light: “I work instinctively using acrylic paints, varnishes, textures and colours. The materials are deconstructed using methodically plastic materials - spreading, burning and dyeing. Time is invested in its realization: the works can take days, weeks or months to create. The works evolve organically. They are built with layers of paint, varnishes, in three-dimensional abstract shapes that lie between the object and the image. Together they create a unique visual and tactile landscape of shape, depth and texture that challenges the viewer to reflect on us and the world”.
