The Aga Khan Social Welfare Board (AKSWB) is an institution that reports to the National Council and its mission is to develop and implement actions to improve the quality of life of vulnerable families and all members of Jamat who need socio-economic support and guidance to better manage their daily lives, ensuring that the basic needs for a life of minimum quality standards are covered.
AKSWB's main areas of activity include:
- Access to Social and Survival Benefits: Helping people to access social benefits and resources needed for their survival, such as financial assistance, food and housing
- Household Budget Management: Providing guidance on how to manage the household budget effectively, ensuring that available resources are utilised appropriately
- Social Advocacy: Acting as an advocate for the rights of vulnerable families, working to ensure that they have access to the services and benefits to which they are entitled
- Life Path Planning: Helping members of the Jamat to plan their life paths, defining goals and strategies to achieve them. Ensuring financial sustainability throughout life, involving the adoption of responsible financial practices that not only guarantee one's present and future, but also protect the financial well-being of future generations
- Smartstore: Managing the Smartstore shop located in Seixal, where members of the Jamat can have access to items such as clothes, shoes, kitchen utensils and other essential goods
