The National Council of Angola, Luanda, celebrated the Global Ismaili CIVIC Day (GICD) in Talatona, on 30th September, 2023. In this occasion the Ismaili Community completed the official handover of a revamped public park to the Talatona Municipal Authority. The community, external partners, Dar-at Talim students, teachers and volunteers came together to serve a greater purpose - the protection of our environment. In total this event involved 200 participants, 86 volunteers and 1,192 hours of volunteer service.
The theme was “urban reforestation and responsible stewardship t”. This park, previously undeveloped, was the target of a landscaping intervention by the Ismaili Community with the aim of promoting urban reforestation. 42 trees, 12 ornamental palm trees and 600 plants of the most varied species were planted; The requalification of irrigation points was also carried out. The new park will provide residents with a place of leisure, rest and refuge full of shade and interesting botanical elements. Due to the characteristics of the selected species, the park will also function as a lung for the neighborhood where it is located.
We counted with the participation of the Dar-at-talim students to plant the trees and the STEP students did a brief presentation on the importance of protecting our environment.
Global Ismaili CIVIC Day is a testament to the strength of the community when it comes to caring for our environment. Let's be agents of change on this journey towards environmental preservation. The future generations and our planet will benefit from these endeavours.
