In the early years, children explore the world around them, experiment with new concepts, and learn new words and the meaning of words, through singing, dancing, drawing, and dramatic play. The arts can encourage creativity, a love of learning, and motivation to go to school.

With movement restrictions and school closures resulting from the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, teachers have had to rapidly change their way of working to manage remote teaching and learning, often with little lead-time. Whilst some educators have been positive, responsive and solution-focused, for many this transition has not been easy, particularly in areas where there is limited connectivity. Trying to sort through resources and align the most relevant to the curriculum can feel overwhelming. Teachers may feel confused about how to make remote learning enjoyable and fun for the children. Many will feel worried about their students being on track with their learning. They may think: Will their students receive adequate parental support?

Will their students and their families have access to the knowledge and resources to manage their wellbeing, safety, and security during this time of crisis?

The ECD @ Home program is meant to supplement any other activities the children receive at home from their schools, as well as help children who do not have access to learning materials sent by their teacher. Early childhood development activities are known to protect children from stress, increase home learning, and lay the groundwork for school learning.

It is the desire of our beloved Imam of the Time that every child in the Jamat has access to early childhood education. The purpose of ECD is to ensure that key developmental milestones are met in the important stages of childhood, in areas such as nutrition, health, social development, in addition to moral and religious education starting from birth.

The Education Board for Angola thanks and applauds all our parents and our special tutors for the work they are doing during this challenging period. The commitment from parents to the ECD @ home program has been constant as we have seen from the activities carried out weekly.

Last week our young leaders engaged in many new activities, including learning Ismaili nursery rhymes, including reading comprehension and social and emotional learning through journal writing.

See below for some photos of our young leaders at work!
