The Education Board for Angola has launched a new ECD@Home program to support the Jamat during this unprecedented time of novel coronavirus COVID-19. With the closure of day-care centers and schools and increased social distancing measures, there was a need and also an opportunity to create additional support for families.

The Education Board team has created a program, whereby weekly learning activities are planned for children between the ages of 1-5 years (toddlers and preschool-aged children). The activities are meant to complement any work the children’s receive at home from their schools. These activities also help to create a daily routine with the support of parents, in particular the mothers of our Jamat, who play a critical role in early childhood development and learning.

Early childhood learning does not just include reading and writing, it also teaches young children to express and communicate their needs and wishes. It teaches children how to become independent and interact in the world with joy, intelligence, autonomy and creativity. It teaches how to think and solve problems, how to launch ideas and test them and how to establish order and meaning. These are learnings that build strong foundations for life for every child. Our wish for the young leaders in our Jamat is that they will have all these skills and more, successfully navigating the journey of life by making their own stories!

This week our young leaders worked on a special novel coronavirus COVID-19 time capsule, creating a memory of this unique time in history.

Arts & Crafts

From the shared illustrations, we see that play allows the child to project himself beyond his own identity, to externalize ideas, thoughts, words that represent the missing objects, things, people and feelings. Just like play, drawing and writing are languages that represent the world. Playing, drawing and writing are complementary activities in the child's development process.
