Voices of Muslim Women, a Vancouver based non-profit organization, brought together diverse groups of Muslim women to share their passion for the arts, social justice, education, and community at the Ismaili Centre in Burnaby.

The event consisted of a panel discussion and video showing showcasing the power of digital storytelling. The four invited panelists showcased how digital media can act as a transformative and educational medium which can counter harmful and popular misconceptions about Islam and Muslim women.

The brief film viewings focused on the individual stories of four Muslim women whose videos touched on the range of human experience including struggles with body image, anxiety, the experiences of immigration, and the negotiation of one’s allegiance to multiple cultures and heritages. The event highlighted the Ismaili Centre as a place of dialogue and exchange focusing on issues of relevance to young women in Canada. It also served to highlight the medium of digital storytelling as a means of artistic and educational expression.

The event was attended by members of the Jamat as well as the external community.
