Illustrator and animator Nidal Al-Khalil from Damascus, Syria says that he continues to research and learn about his craft because he feels that “this type of art shall have a positive effect on the receiver.” Nidal feels that words and images can combine to reach different members of society and reveal messages and “clarify vague concepts.” He believes creating a visual culture will “aim to create a balance between cultural, social and behavioral backgrounds.”

Nidal’s motivation behind his work is the creation of a social cause that helps to enhance positive values. Through his art, Nidal says he strives to “progress forward” and “plans to create [his] own style of expression of cultural values that serves a humanitarian” purpose.

Nidal is the recipient of several national and international awards for his work, particularly for caricature. He says that these awards have “added to [his] inspiration and have [given him] confidence to offer more.” In looking forward to Jubilee Arts, Nidal explains that the “diverse and global arts will give artists the chance to learn new ideas and have great experiences outside their own culture.” He says this experience will “widen the scope of artists and enable them to reshape the artist community.”

Jubilee Arts and the International Arts Festival provide an opportunity for artists, both budding and professional, to showcase their unique talents. We encourage all artists within the Jamat to participate in this Diamond Jubilee international programme. Follow the Jubilee Arts journey on the.ismaili/jubilee-arts.
