Throughout the month of September, Jamats across the Northeast held welcome events for college students. Through these events, the local Jamats and leadership had the opportunity to meet some of the brightest minds studying in the region. The events also provided an opportunity for students to meet one another and get to know members of their local Jamats.

Approximately 400 undergraduate and 100 graduate Ismaili students study in universities across the Northeast. Most student populations are concentrated in Boston, New York City, or Washington, D.C. A number of students are studying at prestigious institutions including Johns Hopkins University, New York University, Columbia University, Georgetown University, and Harvard University, among others. There also exists a diverse set of interests across the Jamat with Ismaili students studying fields of the future such as, Artificial Intelligence, Genetics, Cybersecurity, Social Investing/Finance, and Neurosciences.

Many underscored how much they appreciated the “Northeast Jamat’s welcoming hand” and that their respective Jamatkhana “already felt like a home away from home.” Others commented on the helpfulness of the Ismaili community on their campuses.

Students who missed the welcome events and want to be updated on future programs should reach out to their local ISN (Ismaili Student Network) member or reach out to the AKEB or AKYSB representative in their Jamatkhanas.
