26th annual Scouts Youth Award ceremony
Burnaby – Over 200 guests gathered at the Ismaili Centre Burnaby for the Chief Scout’s Award ceremony. The award and its recipients exemplify scouting principles such as leadership, voluntary service, and the mastery of outdoor skills.
The award was first handed out in 1973 and consists of a cloth emblem and parchment certificate signed by the Chief Scout of Scouts Canada. In addition, the Medal of the Maple for Distinguished Youth Service, which was inaugurated in 2007, was also given to those who have contributed extraordinarily to the scouting movement through community service.
The Honourable Mr. Justice John E.D. Savage, Justice of the Court of Appeal for BC and Yukon, presented the recipients with their Chief Scout Award after having reaffirmed their commitment to give back to the community. Hanif Shariff, chairman, Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board for BC, extended his congratulations to all award recipients and commented that “performing voluntary service and contributing positively as members of society have long been traditions that the Ismaili Community and Scouting movement hold in common.”
The event was attended by friends and family members of award recipients as well as leadership from the BC and Yukon Scouting Service Centre.
