This year’s celebration was particularly significant given the celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary and, once again, Ismaili volunteers were on-hand to serve the wider Ottawa community. For the Ottawa Jamat, this is an annual tradition going back almost as far as the Mayor’s Breakfast itself.
Approximately 50 Ismaili Volunteers joined many others at Lansdowne Park to serve Ottawa’s seniors. Not only was Mayor Jim Watson appreciative of the Ismaili community’s efforts, he personally commended them for their ongoing support.
Non-Ismaili volunteers also appreciated the Ismaili community’s assistance. “While it was cold and wet outside, the building was filled with warmth, laughter and enjoyment by the many people attending the breakfast and the numerous volunteers serving,” said one volunteer.
The Ottawa Ismaili Volunteers have already expressed interest in participating in this magnificent tradition for many years to come. Approximately 2,500 seniors were served a complimentary breakfast as they enjoyed live entertainment, door prizes, and much more.
