Under the motto ‘Give a used book and change Christmas forever’, the campaign invites families to donate books, helping to strengthen the libraries of 5,000 charitable organisations and promote access to reading.
The donated books will be delivered to ENTRAJUDA, which will make a careful selection. Those in good condition will be sent to libraries in social institutions, giving new readers the chance to explore the world of reading. Books in poorer condition, on the other hand, will be recycled through the Food Bank's ‘Paper for Food’ programme, transforming the paper into food support for vulnerable families.
‘We firmly believe that the power of books can transform lives, which is why we encourage everyone to take part by donating a used book and helping us to make a difference to someone's life this Christmas,’ says Inês Condeço, marketing and communications director at FNAC Portugal. For Marta Vinhas, director of ENTRAJUDA, ‘this is a winning initiative from the outset, as it mobilises all of civil society for several causes simultaneously: culture, social solidarity and environmental protection.
With this campaign, we are supporting the promotion of sustainability and social inclusion through the sharing of books and solidarity recycling, in an action that promises to make a difference this Christmas.
