This event, a testament to dedication and Community spirit, was the result of nearly two years of unwavering commitment from over 300 volunteers. Their collective effort culminated in a GCC-wide arts and sports extravaganza, bringing together over 400 Ismaili artists and athletes from across the region, highlighting remarkable talent and dedication within our Community.
Alizae Ismail, GCC Jurisdiction Lead for GASF 2024, reflected on the journey, stating that "...our goal was to create exceptional platforms for artists and athletes to showcase their talent. Leading this project was a humbling and profoundly memorable experience that I will forever cherish."
Sundus Gari, Arts Qualifier Lead for GASF 2024, shared her enthusiasm, saying, "I am so pleased to see incredibly talented, dedicated and diverse individuals from within our Community who have put in so much effort towards their art. Through the spirit of encouragement, sportsmanship and support to fellow artists, the GASF 2024 National Qualifiers lived up to creating ‘unforgettable encounters that light the human spirit!’”
The underlying theme of the Arts Festival was that of ‘Care’, with each artwork and performance providing a unique perspective on this core theme. Community Artists competed across three categories comprising the International Art Gallery (IAG), International Film Festival (IFF) and International Performing Arts Showcase (IPAS). IAG served as a visual platform, showcasing the diversity of thought, culture and media across ten subcategories; IFF celebrated exceptional filmmaking by emerging directors and producers, highlighting the art of writing, directing and storytelling and IPAS uncovered the best talent within vocal and instrumental music, creative arts and dance.
The Sports Qualifier component of GASF 2024 was equally impressive, with over 250 athletes competing across 13 sports. Zishan Iqbal, Sports Qualifier Lead for GASF 2024 remarked, "It was a testament to the power of human potential. Athletes showcased the heights that can be reached while pushing oneself to the limit of their ability and embracing the spirit of competition. The event was a celebration of athleticism, unity and the indomitable human spirit. It gave us an experience that transcends boundaries and left an everlasting impact on all those involved."
GASF 2024 was particularly special, as it marked the first time since 2015 that Ismaili artists and athletes from across the GCC came together for such an event. Each winner selected will go on to represent Team UAE at the Global Encounters Festival 2025, carrying with them the spirit of unity, excellence and both artistic and athletic prowess that defined this year's festival.
The Gulf Arts & Sports Festival 2024 not only showcased the incredible talent but also reinforced the power of Community and the enduring impact of collective effort and determination.
