In this issue, we start with the Portfolio of Communications and Publications. In the following months other Portfolios will be featured.
Council Member: Amyn Mangi, Communications Coordinator (CC).
It is the responsibility of the CC to oversee all communication to the Jamat and equally the communication that flows from within our community to civil society. In addition to that there are other areas of responsibility of which we highlight the monthly Newsletter, the InfoCouncil WhatsApp Broadcast Channel, the future the.ismaili Angola website, Jamati Registration and Database, and our outreach efforts to the wider civil society which happen under the banner of the Ismaili CIVIC. It gets busy at Comms!
Member: Soraia Hassanali, Deputy Communications Coordinator
Soraia assists the CC in several of the abovementioned areas but focuses mostly on one key area which is Graphics production. She leads the Graphics team who are responsible for all the visual communication you encounter on any Jamati event and publication, from the typeface and colours to the design of the roll-ups and banners, whether they are printed or digital such as the ones shared on InfoCouncil.
Member: Inês Andrade Karmali, Graphics Content Creator
Inês works closely with Soraia, producing all the wonderful content you see on our events. If you liked the look of the Luanda Arts & Sports Festival, the logo and colours and design language, you can let Inês know next time you see her in a community event.

Member: Alyssa Manji, Social Media Content and Engagement
Alyssa has recently joined our team and will be supporting our social media and web content management efforts. She has ample experience working with comms in other jurisdictions so she will have a lot to offer our team.
Member: Irina Mavjee, Editor
Irina is the main person behind our monthly newsletter. She collects and decides on the line-up of articles and coordinates with our translator, the Graphics and the Web Team to ensure we have a fresh, bilingual, quality Newsletter for the Angola Jamat, every month. It is not always easy, but she manages very well. Oh, you may like to know, she’s also the voice behind the editorials that you find at the top of every newsletter.
Member: Sadik Sidi, Translator
Sadik is our main man when it comes to jumping between English and Portuguese. He is the reason why our bilingual newsletter flows so well, and it is nearly impossible to say whether an article was originally written in Portuguese or in English. Sadik hopes that his translations help to engage the entire Angola Jamat, as One Jamat.
Member: Alam Harji, Written Content, Proofreading, Translation
Alam is well known and liked within the Angola Jamat as he was brought up in Luanda and spent much of his teenage years here. Now, after completing his education overseas and with some work experience under his belt, he’s ready to move back and has landed precisely on the Comms Portfolio. We believe he will do a great job supporting our written content team, both in writing as well as supporting Sadik with translations and proof-reading so we can continue enjoying fresh, crisp articles that engage the Angola Jamat.
Member: Barkat Minsariya, Logistics
Barkat bhai is the Comms team’s own Logistics Wizard. Are we organising a 200+ people event such as The Ismaili CIVIC Park handover to the Talatona Municipal Authority? No problem. We’ll make it happen. The tents, the chairs, the people, the electrical power, it will all be there. This man is pure hard work and dedication to the Jamat. He’s never looking for thanks, but we certainly thank the heavens for having Barkat bhai as part of our team.
Member: Riyaz Minsariya, Audiovisual Support
Riyaz bhai works closely with Barkat bhai to ensure all Jamati events have adequate sound and image. This is one of those people who is there in the background, quietly making sure our events go smoothly.
