The mission of Ismaili Tariqah and Religious Education Board for Portugal (ITREB) for the mandate started at 11 July 2023 is to continue to foster a unified, knowledgeable, and engaged jamat, anchored in the ethics of our faith.
The ITREB reports to the Department of Jamati Institutions and under the direction and guidance of Mawlana Hazar Imam, supported by the Institute of Ismaili Studies, is responsible to:
- implement a comprehensive programme and curriculum of religious education at all levels within the Shia Imami Ismail Tariqah of Islam;
- implement programmes for the training and upgrading of waezeen and religion teachers;
- engage in or support research in the relevant aspects of Islam and the Ismaili Tariqah;
- undertake the publication of books and materials on relevant aspects of Islam and the Ismaili Tariqah;
- Be a point of reference and consultation for Mukhi and Kamadias in matters of religious rites and practices of the Ismaili Tariqah;
- make submissions to bring about uniformity in religious rites and practices of Ismailis, when so directed by Mawlana Hazar Imam;
- work in close collaboration with other Tariqah and Religious Education Boards in different regions of the world; and
- work in close collaboration with the Institute of Ismaili Studies to facilitate empathy and convergence or other harmonious relationships in their respective programmes, the development of human resources and education material and encourage constructive interaction between the religious and secular dimensions of education.
The team appointed for the mandate 2023 - 2026 is composed of members with diverse cultural, gender, professional, and generational backgrounds in order to constitute a multidisciplinary team that represents the diversity of the Jamat and to respond to the current and future challenges of Religious Education within the Community in Portugal and Spain.
The team is supported by a Professional STAFF, composed by an Executive Officer, an Academic Director, 2 STEP Teachers, a Professional Teacher Educator, and an Administrative Assistant.
