In a spectacular showcase of artistry, dedication, and community spirit, the United States Ismaili Arts Southwest Festival in Houston, Texas, shares talent, highlighting the theme of “care.” The event brought together talented artists, dedicated volunteers, and enthusiastic attendees. Over 800 extraordinary artists contributed to the festival's impressive showcase across the categories of art, film, and talent in October 2023.

The art gallery’s diverse collections, featuring paintings, sculptures, installations, photography, and even fashion clothing designed by Ismaili artists, transformed the NRG Center from a venue into a visual wonderland. The diversity of artistic expression provided the Jamat with a unique and transformative experience as they made their way through the space, encountering hundreds of unique pieces of visual art reflecting the theme of care. The gallery was truly a testament to the depth and breadth of artistic talent within our Jamats.

“I participated as a performer, and it was a wonderful experience. From initial registration to submissions and leading up to the big day, all aspects were very well organized, especially all the communications and guidelines that constantly needed to be shared with the participants. An amazing event to remember for many years to come,” said Hassan Rajani, an artist who performed in the Talent Showcase.

The festival was not only about visual art but also a celebration of the performing arts. Attendees applauded the two-day event, with over 160 individuals and groups delivering mesmerizing talent performances that left them in awe. Dancers, musicians, and actors showcased their skills, taking the audience on a journey of emotions and cultural exploration. It was a reminder that art transcends language and brings people together in the most profound ways.

Adding to the festival's allure were captivating film screenings that told stories, invoked introspection, and entertained all at once. These cinematic experiences offered a unique perspective on the world and the human experience, fostering a sense of connectivity that only art can provide.

The spirit of the festival was driven by curiosity, appreciation, and participation by the Jamat. Their presence and engagement turned the event into a vibrant and dynamic celebration of art, fostering a sense of togetherness and shared cultural heritage.

“We had an amazing and beautiful experience at the USIA Southwest Festival! From registration to submissions to the actual performance, the process was seamless. Whether it was day or night, the volunteers were so giving of their time and knowledge. They truly were the backbone and made this event a huge success and a memorable experience for all!” - Azmina Balsara, parent of an artist who participated in the festival.

Behind the scenes of this creative showcase were volunteers who were instrumental in making this festival a resounding success. Over 300 volunteers provided support in areas of content, marketing, media, registration, gallery curation, production, logistics, and of course, artist engagement. Their collective effort turned the festival into an outstanding turnout and a source of inspiration for future artistic endeavors within the community.
