Human dignity is an intrinsic and inseparable quality of any human being. Reflecting on the concept of dignity is imperative nowadays, in which we demand more humanized care, with the perspective of the person being cared for as a unique human being, in its entirety and complexity.

Dignity is ageless and caregivers and/or relatives responsible for seniors, whose autonomy and general health are vulnerable, fulfil a mission of incalculable value. These senior dignity keepers have a greater challenge because they also have to take care of themselves.

Respecting others without losing self-respect is essential.

Creating empathy and responding to each other's needs does not mean putting individual needs at risk.

Caring for the health and well-being of others is only effective if the caregiver is physically and psychologically balanced.

Therefore, it has to be someone who is part of the seniors’ group of affective and family ties, and as it has the responsibility to care for “their” senior.

If it is essential to provide quality of life to seniors and develop cognitive stimulation activities for them, as well as physical and recreational activities, it is equally important to create spaces for learning and interaction between caregivers, so that the sharing of experiences, the acquisition of strategies and moments leisure activities are part of their well-being.

It is the responsibility of all communities, of all of us, to take care of seniors and those who care for them, ensuring that dignity does not grow old and sick.
