His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan became Imam of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims on 11th July, 1957 at the age of 20, succeeding his grandfather, Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan.

Mawlana Hazar Imam is the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims and a direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through his cousin and son-in-law, Ali, the first Imam, and his wife Fatima, the Prophet’s daughter.

The Imamat Day is therefore observed annually on July 11th.

The recognition of the Imam of the Time is central to Ismailis' faith and belief. Imamat Day provides an occasion to reinforce this and to express gratitude to the Imam of the Time, in keeping with the centuries-old tradition of leadership and providing guidance in matters of faith, working to improve the quality of life and security of human condition.

Imamat Day is an occasion to reaffirm our faithfulness and appreciation to Mawlana Hazar Imam for his benevolence guidance and to renew our commitment to the ethics of our faith.

On the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of Mawlana Hazar Imam's accession to the Ismaili Imamat, Dar-a-Talim Angola wishes Imamat Day Mubarak to all our Jamat in Angola and around the world.
