Celebrate the winter solstice with performances that channel timeless stories through music, song, dance, chants, and whirling dervishes. This intimate presentation gives you the opportunity to experience the transformative ritual of the season’s change with an eclectic group of national and international dance and music artists.
A co-production with Sashar Zarif Dance Projects and the Ismail Centre, Toronto, this event is part of our 2019/20 Performing Arts season, Listening to Each Other, which pays tribute to the role of the performative arts in connecting communities, preserving culture, and spurring social change.
Bio:
Sashar Zarif is an internationally acclaimed multi-disciplinary performing artist, educator, and researcher. His practice is steeped in the artistry and history of traditional, ritualistic, and contemporary dance and music of the Near Eastern and Central Asian regions. He has toured in over 40 countries, promoting cultural dialogue through intensive fieldworks, residencies, performances, and creative collaborations. Among many awards, he is the recipient of The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contribution to the arts and the Chalmers Fellowships from the Ontario Arts Council.
