Showcase a wide variety of Ismaili talent in the performing arts
Provide a unique opportunity to celebrate and represent the Jamat’s rich and diverse culture from the USA and around the world
Enhance technique and delivery for on-stage performance in front of a large audience
Provide performers the opportunity to meet fellow artists from across the USA and around the globe

You will need to upload a video of your performance to a hosting website like DropBox, Google Drive or YouTube.  Video should be clear, high quality, and high resolution.

Category Descriptions

The Jubilee Talent Showcase will include a very wide expanse of performances, organized into the following categories.

Music

Music category submissions will be pieces in which the majority of the act is created by instruments. Music acts may be solo, small group, or larger (e.g. orchestral) acts in any cultural style. All musical genres including classical, folk, and popular styles are welcome. Music must be played live, without backing tracks.

Dance

Dance submissions will be pieces based on the movement of the body, in solo or group choreography. Dance acts may be solo, small group, or larger troupe choreographies in any cultural style. Background music tracks may accompany submissions. Live musicians may also accompany submissions, but only choreography will be evaluated. Stage props will be allowed so long as setup and teardown is feasible within two minutes between performances.

Voice

Voice submissions will be pieces featuring the performance of song, melody, and/or rhythm, by the voice. Voice acts may be solo, small group, or larger (e.g. choral) submissions in any cultural style and language. Original and pre-existing pieces (“covers”) may be performed. Vocalists may be accompanied by live instrumentalists and/or recorded tracks; however, only the vocalists will be evaluated.

Performance Arts

This category is meant to be as inclusive of different forms of performance-based art as possible. Acts may be solo, small group, or larger submissions in any cultural style and language. This category is meant to encompass any performing art form not covered by the other three categories, including – but not limited to:

gymnastics
martial arts
step dance
shadow dance
poetry and spoken word performance
monologues and readings
acting/rendering of scenes from plays or films
comedy
puppetry
magic
visual artists creating pieces live onstage

Performance time: maximum 4 minutes total length (plus 2 minutes for prop setup/takedown)
Maximum group size: 20 performers
Stage dimension: 30’ (depth) x 40’ (width)

Evaluation Criteria

Each artist or group will be asked to describe how their submission incorporates at least one of the creative prompts: Time, Legacy, Aspiration, and Devotion. There are myriad ways that artists can work these prompts into their submissions.  In addition, submissions to the Talent Showcase will be evaluated on the following technical criteria:

Technique

Overall Performance

You will need to upload a video of your performance to a hosting website like DropBox, Google Drive or YouTube.  Video should be clear, high quality, and high resolution.
