What is the National Arts Festival?
The Jubilee Arts National Arts Festival UK is an opportunity for everyone in the community (Ismaili and non-Ismaili spouses/children) to celebrate the arts.
Why should I enter the National Arts Festival?
The Jubilee Arts National Arts Festival UK is a wonderful initiative for you to display your artistic talents at a local and national level. You will have the opportunity to show your engagement with the spiritual ethos of the Ismaili community in celebration of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Diamond Jubilee.
Who can Enter the National Arts Festival?
Any Ismaili or non-Ismaili spouse or child can enter. There is no age limit. For those under 16, parental consent is required.
How much will it cost to enter?
It is free to submit an entry but the National event will be ticketed
What are the Events I can enter in?
There are three event streams you can choose to enter; Talent Showcase, Art Gallery and Film Festival. Within each one of these, there are various categories. There is a link to the Submission Guidelines for each stream on the Jubilee Arts UK page which lists the categories and requirements the.ismaili/jubilee-arts-uk
Are there limits to the number of entries I can make?
You can only enter in one event stream. If you enter in the Art Gallery or the Film Festival, you can submit as many pieces as you like. If you enter for the Talent Showcase you can only submit one.
How can I enter the International Arts Festival?
First you must enter the National Arts Festival. If you or your artwork is chosen from this platform, you will then be requested to go forward to the International Arts Festival.
What is the registration and submission deadline?
You can register first and submit your artwork later as long as both are done by midnight on 16th March 2018.
Are there any specific guidelines to adhere to when creating artwork?
· There are 4 creative prompts; Time, Legacy, Aspiration and Devotion. You must incorporate one of these into your piece.
· More specific submission guidelines can be found within the Submission Guidelines available on the website
· There are a few prohibitions on content:
· No abusive or foul images or language
· No sexually suggestive or provocative dance moves
· No clear images of children under 18 to be used unless written parental consent given
· No use of images or other depictions of Mawlana Hazar Imam, his family or any other Imams
· No use of the personal standard of Mawlana Hazar Imam, the Imamat Crest, the Ismaili Flag, the Nashid al-Imamah, the Taj, the Volunteer Badge, the Jubilee Logos, AKDN and other Institutional logos
· This is not a complete list. The National Council or equivalent authority may establish additional parameters for content that is deemed inappropriate which is not included in the list above
What is a Creative Prompt?
A creative prompt is a word, phrase or idea that evokes and inspires creative or critical thought. The purpose of these creative prompts is to ensure that all submissions relate to the overall theme and objectives of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. The overarching theme is the concept of Imamat and everything Mawlana Hazar Imam has done for the Jamat through the Institutions and other channels.
How do I use the creative prompts within my artwork?
Be creative with the use of the prompts (Time, Legacy, Aspiration and Devotion). Submissions do not need to be religious, and you are encouraged to interpret these prompts freely.
Can I change my submission after I enter it?
No. The artwork submitted should be your final entry for the National Art Festival and the International Arts Festival if you are selected.
When do I need to have created my artwork?
All art must the original work of the submitting artist. You may choose to submit work that you have previously created at any time as long as it can be related to one of the four creative prompts.
What is the date of the National Arts Festival UK Jurisdiction?
Spring 2018 – exact date and location to be confirmed.
What is the date of the International Arts Festival?
Summer 2018 – exact date and location to be confirmed.
How do I submit my entry?
When you register, the form has a section where you can upload photographs and videos of your piece. Click here for registration.
Talent Showcase – you will need to upload a performance quality video of your piece.
Art Gallery – you will need to upload still photographs and/or a walk around video of you piece as well as sending the final product to a specified location (as yet to be confirmed)
Film Festival – you will need to upload the film directly

Where do I send my visual art piece?
The exact location is to be confirmed, and you will be informed nearer the time.
Do I need to audition for any events?
No, there is no audition process.
Will there be insurance to cover my artwork once it has been received?
Yes. You will be informed of the details once we receive your online submission. Your artwork is your responsibility up until the time it we receive it.
If I am using a backing track to sing my song, do I need to get permission from the original artist?
In all cases, if you are using someone else’s work to support your entry, you need to attribute the music to the original artist in your submission narrative. If you can get in touch with the original artist and get their written consent, this should also be done. If the recording is professionally done and you cannot get in touch with the record company, it will be enough to attribute it to the original artist.
What if the singer/composer is deceased?
Attributing the song to the original artist in your submission narrative will be fine.
If I have written some poetry or prose, how do I submit this?
This comes under the Talent Showcase, Creative Performance stream. You will need to upload a video of yourself reading your piece. At the National Arts Festival, you will need to perform this. Please state in the submission narrative that you are submitting a literary piece.
