The Right Honourable Kim Campbell delivered a lecture at the Ismaili Centre, Burnaby on the topic of Building Civil Societies: The Role of Women Leaders. Ms Campbell was the 19th Prime Minister of Canada (1993). From 2004 through 2006 she served as Secretary General of the Club of Madrid, and was a member of the Board of Directors from 2007-2011. She has served as Chair of the Council of Women World Leaders (CWWL) and as President of the International Women's Forum.
Ismaili Centres around the world hold lectures to exchange ideas, contribute to knowledge and raise awareness of the most compelling issues and events in the world today through public debate, dialogue and community engagement. Each year the Ismaili community in Canada hosts lectures that aim to foster a greater understanding of critical issues of the day and to bring together thought leaders. The lectures encourage exchange and mutual understanding between diverse peoples, communities and faiths, while broadening intellectual horizons and fostering an appreciation of pluralism.
Currently, Ms Campbell is the founding principal of the new Peter Lougheed Leadership College at the University of Alberta. She also chairs the steering committee of the World Movement for Democracy and is a trustee of the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and Political Violence at King’s College London. Ms Campbell is a board member of the Forum of Federations based in Ottawa, the East West Institute, and a member of the Pacific Council on International Policy (the West Coast affiliate of the Council on Foreign Relations), as well as the Global Council of the Asia Society New York. She is also a senior advisor to the International Crisis Group and an honorary board member of the Climate Action Reserve.
