At the request of the Consul General of Japan in Dubai and under Economic and Cultural Agencies of the Consulate of Japan, the Ismaili Centre Dubai hosted a traditional Japanese theatrical performance by the Hosho School of Noh.
The occasion also celebrated the Japanese mission in the UAE, marking 50 years since the United Arab Emirates and Japan established diplomatic relations. The performance contributed to intensifying the cultural cooperation between the Consulate General of Japan and the Ismaili Centre.
120 guests from a curated list of invitees attended the performance with socially distanced seating. The Ambassadors of Thailand and Luxembourg were amongst those who attended. In addition to the Consul General of Japan, the Consul General of Sri Lanka also attended the event. The audience was also composed of high level members of the Japanese business community, NGOs and Art Gallery representatives. At least 70% of the audience was composed of first time visitors.
The Hosho performance was exceptionally well received by the guests. The Ismaili Centre, Dubai renewed its relationship with Japan, Thailand and Iran’s diplomatic missions in the UAE. The President’s speech reminded the audience of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture's deep engagement in the promotion of music as a catalyst for cultural diversity, and the impact of these initiatives on the beneficiaries of these joint programmes. The Consul General in turn thanked the Ismaili Centre for remaining an enabling partner during his term of office.
