What is Ethics in Action?
As a Diamond Jubilee initiative, the Ethics in Action exhibition aims to engage and enlighten visitors through a thoughtful and immersive experience, and illustrates how the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) incorporates key ethics into its work around the world. The exhibit has journeyed to numerous cities and countries across the globe during the Diamond Jubilee year.
The exhibition sheds light on 8 ethics central to the work of AKDN and demonstrates how each of these guide development projects in fields as varied as healthcare and heritage preservation across the globe. The exhibition is accompanied by an app, called Ethics in Action, that allows visitors to explore projects and ethics further, using a smartphone. Visitors are encouraged to download the app prior to visiting the exhibit to make the most of their experience.
What can I find there?
Grounded in the Ismaili traditions of service, care, and compassion, Ethics in Action expresses the notion of AKDN protecting and sheltering the communities it serves, symbolised by the digitally-fabricated canopy that serves as a connective tissue under which a selection of artefacts are displayed. Guests at the exhibition will be able to learn about and interact with the intricate embroidery, glittering gemstones, and bright fabrics on display. The content brings to life the values that underpin the work of the AKDN, by sharing human-centred stories about the lives touched through the practice of these principles.
Where and when will it be held?
During the week of the celebration, the Ethics in Action exhibition will be located at Feira Internacional de Lisboa 1 (FIL 1) adjacent to Jamatkhana. The exhibition will be open to view anytime without registration or charge throughout the celebration week from 05-11 July.
Rays of Light
As a part of the celebrations of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Diamond Jubilee, the Ismaili community relaunched Rays of Light: Glimpses into the Ismaili Imamat, an exhibition depicting his commitment through the past 60 years to uphold the Ismaili Imamat’s mandate of improving the human condition. His humanitarian work has benefitted all; regardless of gender, race, religion, or nationality. This exhibition offers a glimpse of that work.
Rays of Light made its debut in December 2008 during Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Golden Jubilee celebrations. The journey has continued this year with his Diamond Jubilee.
Its unique layout offers to visitors a multi-sensory experience of 250 photographs, evocative music, and multimedia presentations. Ten years on, the relaunched exhibition includes technological enhancements to provide more extensive insights into the scope and scale of the work undertaken by Mawlana Hazar Imam.
Having toured around the world since 2007, the exhibition has attracted over 100,000 visitors thus far and is expected to draw in thousands more during the Diamond Jubilee Celebration - Lisboa 2018.
During the week of the celebration, the Rays of Light exhibition will be located at Feira Internacional de Lisboa 1 (FIL 1) adjacent to Jamatkhana. The exhibition will be open to view from 05-11 July, and places must be reserved in advance at jubilee.blueticket.pt.
Aga Khan Museum Pop-up Experience
“The aim of the Aga Khan Museum will be to offer unique insights and new perspectives into Islamic civilizations and the cultural threads that weave through history binding us all together. The Aga Khan Museum Pop-up Experience in Lisbon will allow visitors to learn more about the Aga Khan Museum’s work in education, exhibitions, and the performing arts.
These areas will be explored by offering a virtual reality tour of the Fatimids Exhibition, recorded performances of dance, music, and spoken word poetry, and a recorded lecture series.
There will also be a selection of products for sale inspired by the collections at the Aga Khan Museum.
