Mehfil Chai House at the Ismaili Centre, Burnaby

On 15 March 2018, Mehfil Chai House, a medley of performances, poetry and songs, was showcased to celebrate Asian Heritage Month — an annual event that promotes an understanding and appreciation of Asian-Canadian arts and culture in the month of May.

The third year running at the Ismaili Centre, this year’s theme "Pan Asian Routes" placing a special focus on Pan Asian migration and the legacy, culture and accomplishments of the growing and diverse communities of Canadians with Pan Asian heritage. Performers were represented from Mongolia, India, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan.

Founded in 1996, Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society (VAHMS) is a non-profit society that is dedicated to recognizing Asian Canadian participation as an integral part of Canadian society. VAHMS organizes explorASIAN, an annual festival celebrating national Asian Heritage Month. The audience included members of the broader community and the Jamat.
