We are proud to spotlight Amit Patel, a dedicated volunteer with the Regional Advisory Council (RAC) since November 2022. The RAC shapes policies that reflect the needs of our diverse community as an advisory body to the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC). Amit actively contributes to this essential dialogue, advocating for the interests of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. He states, "These roles have allowed me to work closely with our community, advocating for the needs and interests of our CALD communities."
One of Amit’s key responsibilities is to facilitate two-way communication between the community and government. He emphasises, “Sharing information from other consultative bodies with RAC members is crucial. This exchange of knowledge helps us stay informed about best practices and innovative approaches to multicultural affairs.” Participation in multicultural and multifaith activities also allows the community to celebrate its diversity and build stronger connections.
Amit is passionate about promoting cultural diversity, believing that “by bringing different perspectives to the table, we ensure that our policies are well-rounded and effective.” He has reviewed and provided feedback on Monash Council’s Public Health and Wellbeing Plan, ensuring policies are inclusive and effective.
His commitment to inclusivity and social justice drives his work with the Monash Council and the VMC, collaborating with others who share his vision for a more inclusive society. Looking ahead, Amit is enthusiastic about continuing his efforts: “My dedication to building a harmonious society that embraces and celebrates diversity is unwavering.” His contributions reflect the spirit of Ismaili CIVIC, championing service and civic engagement within our communities.
